During the last week of April in 1925, Albert Higley took $2,000 and began his own construction company in Cleveland Ohio. The Albert M. Higley Company was fully incorporated on April 29th, 1925, beginning its now one hundred years of history, as a company that specializes in commercial, industrial, and institutional projects.
As a 1917 alumnus of Case School of Applied Science, Albert or “Ab” to many that knew him was eager to join the United States Army, commissioned as a First Lieutenant, to fight in World War I. The war ended before he was sent overseas so Albert put his bachelor’s in civil engineering to use and joined the Sam Emerson Company. After six years, Albert decided to found his own company. He established an office on East 22nd Street, less than a mile from our current headquarters!
With just 5 years left to the decade, The Albert M. Higley Company wasted no time in making its mark, completing major projects like the Broadway Buick Building, Cleveland State Hospital, and the Hiram College Science Building. This early success gave the company its long-lasting reputation of quality. Clients from the twenties still look to Higley Construction for work such as the Federal Reserve Bank and Case School (now Case Western Reserve University).
Outside of his work for the company, Albert was the President of the Case Alumnus Association, a father, and an accordion player! Now, one hundred years later, we are grateful for Albert Higley creating our company and inspiring our core values that we live by every day.
Overall, the 1920’s is represented with innovation and growth throughout the country and The Albert M. Higley Company was no different. Albert Higley was able to create such a strong foundation for this company that even a century later and has enabled us to expand and reach new heights that Albert could not have even imagined.
